The COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN’S HOPE trailer lets us all become true believers for a couple of hours!

Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me, 30 Days), in my opinion, has stolen the crown for documentary filmmaking away from Michael Moore in recent years, and with more than twenty films and TV shows, he has won by sheer volume alone. The man simply lives to tell the story as he sees it through his lens. This time around Spurlock has aimed his lens towards the San Diego Comic-Con with his documentary COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN’S HOPE. Check out the trailer after the break!

I’ll admit that the whole “tell the story as he sees it” potion had me pretty apprehensive when I first heard that Spurlock would be making a documentary about the San Diego Comic-Con a couple of years ago. While geek culture has continued to become more main stream I still moments of hesitation when I see something that I’m passionate about being put on display. It’s hard to shake old memories of being mocked by those less willing to accept things that they don’t immediately understand. Geeks have an inherent want to protect our culture from the mocking eye of others. It’s an almost Momma Bear reactionary defense that honestly has outlived its need.

Luckily for most fans the news that this movie was being made by an “outsider” was alleviated by the news that the Executive Producers are a myriad of Ancient Geek Gods (yeah… that just happened). The standout members on small yet mighty list of producers are as follows: Harry Knowles (founder of news site Ain’t It Cool News), Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer Series, Firefly, The Avengers) who will not only be a producer but will also be lending his amazing writing talents to the film, and last but not least “The Man” Stan Lee (everything comic awesome… you want more? Use Google)!

While I’m still slightly nervous about this film I can say that now is the perfect time for this film to be made. People’s interests are peaked about our culture and studios are willing to back a production about a bunch “who like to dress up and read funny books”.  Needless to say I’m excited about this film and am hoping that this honestly does bring forth a better understanding of how we’re all actually geeks of one variety or another.

COMIC-CON EPISODE IV: A FAN’S HOPE is making its rounds in the film festival circuit currently but will open sometime later this year.

Stay tuned true believers!
